Specialty Staining
Are your wooden deck, siding or fence boards tired and faded?
At DGP Painting, we can bring your old wooden decks, pergolas, accent wood pieces or your exterior fence back to life by re-staining them. They will look fresh and clean for a fraction of the cost that it would take to replace them.
Deck Floor Boards & Handrail Staining
- Prior to starting work, we pressure wash all areas to be stained.
- We remove all failing stain by sanding (abrasion) or by a chemical wash (stripper).
- We cover any adjacent areas to prevent stain from soiling surrounding areas.
- We apply stain as recommended by the manufacturer and ensure an even application as well as consistent look.
Deck, Garage Doors & Siding Stains
- There are many different types of stain that provide different levels of protection, longevity and color.
- Translucent – Semi transparent – Semi Solid – Solid – Elastomeric Solid as well as specialty stain system that can reduce the need to sand, strip and re-stain.
- Staining is a maintenance item. Your specific needs will vary and without visiting the site it is impossible to recommend the best stain for your project.
- We have seen short cycles of less than a year in direct constant sunlight and as long as several years with the proper maintenance.
- The most important maintenance is keeping the surface clean and removing mold, mildew, pollen, dirt and any other contaminants that land on the surface.
- The more transparency a stain has the less pigment, color and uniformity it will produce. The transparent stains are for projects where we want to accentuate the natural beauty of the wood and see the grain and different variations of color the stain will produce. If you want every board to look the same, you don’t want to stain, you want to paint.
- The solid family of stains have more pigments and act more like paint to give you a more uniform look. It will reduce or eliminate seeing the wood grain.
- Elastomeric Stains are best used for old wood that is dried out, but is otherwise intact. This heavy solid stain can fill cracks and give new life back to old wood.
- Specialty finishes can reduce the maintenance required to maintain a deck or siding. These systems are multiple coats, using multiple products producing a deep beautiful sheen with a urethane sealer. These systems have a maintenance coat that can be applied to rejuvenate the system as regular maintenance cycles, giving you a freshly stained look in perpetuity. Just give us a call when it starts to dull a bit.

Front Doors
- The majority of doors we do are done with either a wiping stain or a gel stain. (Their thick consistency prevents drips and runs on vertical surfaces giving a much more consistent look compared to traditional liquid stains.)
- We remove all the failing stains and sand down the door to bare wood if necessary.
- We apply the stain in a color and sheen specified on your quote. We can make custom colors to match or complement your existing color scheme.
- We apply a clear coat of Alkyd Acrylic Spar Polyurethane in either a Warm Satin, Soft Gloss or Gloss.
