Popcorn Ceiling Removal
For occupied homes with substantial personal property, items must be moved to a garage or pod before work begins.
Please clear all personal items and furniture from the work area prior to our arrival. If you need assistance, we can arrange box delivery or contact movers to pack and relocate belongings.
We can also arrange a pod delivery to store items safely while removal and drywall work are in progress.
We protect the space by covering floors and any furniture that is too large or heavy to move.
The room is sealed using high-density painter’s plastic; we hang 2 mm plastic sheets from ceiling to floor and install a plastic curtain to contain dust.
We wet the ceiling with a sprayer, allow the water to penetrate, then remove the popcorn texture using a large texture scraper and a smaller putty knife for corners and the wall-to-ceiling junctions.
As needed, we tape and float the ceiling with all-purpose drywall joint compound to create a smooth surface and repair any imperfections left from the removal process.
We apply a fine orange-peel texture (or another agreed-upon texture) to match the existing ceilings in your home.
Finally, we prime with a stain-blocking primer and finish with two coats of flat ceiling paint in your selected color and finish.

We attempt removal using appropriate methods, but when adhesive is too strong and drywall would be damaged, we prime the wallpaper with shellac primer, tape and float the edges, and treat the wall as new drywall, spot-priming the floated areas.

Does popcorn ceiling removal create a lot of dust and mess?
Yes, it can — which is why we take containment seriously. We seal the room with 2 mm plastic sheeting from ceiling to floor, hang a plastic curtain at the doorway, and cover all floors and furniture that can’t be moved. Our goal is to keep the mess contained and leave your home clean after every job.
Do I need to move all my furniture out before you start?
For best results, we ask that personal items and furniture be cleared from the work area before we arrive. If that’s not possible, we can cover large or heavy pieces in place. For substantial personal property, we recommend moving items to a garage or storage pod — and we can help arrange pod delivery or movers if needed.
What happens after the popcorn or wallpaper is removed?
After removal, we repair any imperfections with all-purpose drywall joint compound, apply a texture to match the rest of your home (typically a fine orange-peel), prime with a stain-blocking primer, and finish with two coats of paint in your chosen color — leaving you with a fully updated, ready-to-enjoy surface.
Can you match the texture to the rest of my ceilings or walls?
Yes. We apply a fine orange-peel texture as our standard, but we can match whatever texture exists in the surrounding areas of your home so everything looks consistent. Just let us know during the estimate walkthrough.
Will the ceiling or walls need to be painted after removal?
Yes — and painting is included in our process. After texturing, we prime with a stain-blocking primer and apply two finish coats of paint in the color and sheen of your choice. You won’t need to hire a separate painter.
